following up to myself:
turns out that the sf server's browser sniffing identifies w3m as
not supporting scripting, but fails to do the same with w3.
So I did manage to pull espeak-1.18 -- and the Emacspeak server
that is checked in works very well.
Sadly, the urls that sf generates are not something one can write
a url template for which is really unfortunate.
