On 2007 Jan 23, an instance of Emacspeak of that date using espeakf (and that date's CVS Emacs) stopped producing sound. After evaluating (global-font-lock-mode nil) I could hear, but the speech rate was very slow. I could not set the speed higher and reported a bug to the espeakf person, adbingham@xxxxxxxxxxx (Since then I have shifted to eflite, which does not express different voices according to different faces.) I am not certain what the problem is, except that (progn (setq font-lock-keywords-only t) (font-lock-mode t)) produces good faces on a Texinfo test file -- and silence when using espeakf and no different voices when using eflite.
