Just seeing if I was doing the right thing, I.E., asking if this was how everyone else did it. For the curious, here's my .asoundrc: ----- .asoundrc ----- pcm.softvol { type softvol slave { pcm "cards.pcm.default" } control { name 'musicvol' card 0 } } -----END----- (modified from ALSA wiki) Then, I have the following in ~/.mplayer/config: ao=alsa:device=softvol In .emacs: (setq emms-player-list '(emms-player-mplayer)) All works well, it seems. amixer set musicvol X # Sets music volume, independently of the synth. -- Chris ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the emacspeak list or change your address on the emacspeak list send mail to "emacspeak-request@xxxxxxxxxxx" with a subject of "unsubscribe" or "help"
