This is just a followup to the above comment. I commented everything but emacspeak and w3 code in the .emacs file. No joy on the xslt problem. I also did an svn update and now the reading of the whole line in the minibuffer has gone back to the original behavior. Just for completeness, I have also done an apt-get upgrade on the system. This very well could be an issue with my emacs build. I will update again as soon as I get a chance and if that doesn't do anything to fix the problem I will install the release version of emacs and see if it solves the issue. Thanks, rdc -- Robert D.
