Hi Cleverson, This problem could be caused by EMACS_UNIBYTE being set by the script you use to launch emacspeak. (/usr/bin/emacspeak in debian used to do it). If /usr/bin/emacspeak or /usr/local/bin/emacspeak or whatever you use to launch emacspeak contains these lines: EMACS_UNIBYTE=1 export EMACS_UNIBYTE then remove them.
