You can change the function of keys on the laptop using key maps. The details
of how to do it depend on whether you're working from the console or from
within an X11 environment. There is documentation available on the Web to help
with this (see your favourite search engine and look for example at the Linux
keyboard and console HOWTO). Also, Emacspeak comes with sample key maps that
may be useful as a starting point.

Note that the desired changes depend on your specific laptop's keyboard layout
and how you want to modify the defaults. You could, for example, move the ctrl
or meta key, or assign the meta or ctrl functions to additional keys on the
right side of the keyboard.

I'm not the best person to give specific advice, as my laptops have all had
decent keyboard layouts with which I'm comfortable. However, there may be
others on the list who have configurations to suggest.
