Note that there is currently 2 versions of bbdb, so it might be worthwhile indicating which version you use. The first version is the old version 2.x - which has been around for ages with only very minor updates. The second version is 3.x and is available via a couple of the ELPA repositories (marmalade and melba). There are some compatibility issues with v3 and it requires some configuration changes in setup. I have been using it a little and it does appear to work with VM (latest dev version of VM), but I’m not a heavy VM user anymore. The bbdb database files are not backward compatible between v2.x and v3.x, so if you plan to try out v3, make sure you backup your .bbdb file first.
