Question: Setting up Emacspeak on a Mac

Hi,

I have set up Emacs and Emacspeak as described in this article: http://www.ruiandrebatista.com/finally-emacs-and-emacspeak

However, when Emacs comes up, I see warnings, and when I press the F1 key, I get told:

"Symbol's value as variable is void: mac-default-speech-rate"

Is this normal? how can I verify that Emacspeak is working?
