Transient mark mode

As a sighted user, each time I press C-SPC in transient mark mode, I see the message line toggle between "Mark activated" and "Mark deactivated".  But it sounds to me like I'm hearing the same auditory icon for both the activation and the deactivation.  How do blind users tell whether the mark is active or not?  Does it make sense to have two *different* auditory icons?
