OT: Anyone Know How to get Espeak working in Console in Arch Linux?

Sorry for the off-topic post but at least it's related.

I have emacspeak working fine in Arch Linux / EndeavourOS.  It's wonderful.

But I cannot figure how to get espeak in virtual console.

If I type at the prompt:

espeak hello

I hear hello.

I seem to have espeakup and speech-dispatcher installed and running.

When I run lsmod | grep speak

speakup_soft           16384  0
speakup               139264  1 speakup_soft

I can run speech-dispatcher from the command line but I don't know how to get it running without doing that.

Maybe that's the problem.

If anyone's willing to help me off-list, I'll keep this off this nice list of emacspeak.
