How can I see why Emacspeak is not working, when I don't have Emacspeak available?

Hi,

I'm using MacOS, and when I updated to the latest commit on master today, Emacspeak stopped  working for me.

I wonder what ways you use to find out why Emacspeak is not working. I just do C-x h M-w and copy it into Text Edit, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, depending on if my cursor is in the right window. This time it seems to be in the wrong window :-)
