[Emacspeak] Re: Mac question
Mac changed their speech rate scale. What was once 500 is now about 225. Changing the default speech rate in the server from 500 to 225 will fix things.
Nice to see the server being worked on and potentially ported to go which does have cocoa bindings.
The sox support was always experimental/for fun. It writes out tts as a sound clip and plays it back with sox effects applied. I wouldn't do this for performance reasons since Apple streams tts for audio playback without going through file i/o and there's no reason to do so usually.
Apple does regress framework components and introduce behavior changes like crashing speech apis and speech rate changes for Ventura.
It does not "follow the speech rate" because it's meant to be a scale
factor, ie scales the speech-rate to speed up rate at which letters are
spoken.
