show-text is a program I wrote here --but it's not been
distributed generally. It's the code that powers
access.adobe.com
For one that is downloadable, has similar functionality, but
is a lot slower, see pstotext from DEC SRC.

Your reply to Jason regarding vm was very timely for me. I was just in
the middle of customizing my vm handling of mime types. I have just a
quick question regarding your vm configuration file. In the
vm-mime-type-converter-alist you have an entry for text/pdf which uses
a program called show-text. Where did you get this program? It looks
exactly like what I need for pdf files. Can you send me a url where I
can download it?
Thanks
Tim
