Re: w3 problem

Has the relevant W3 startup code been inserted into your ~/.emacs file? Is
W3 located in your Emacs site-lisp directory? If you type m-x set-variable
debug-on-error t (with a return after each component of the command, of
course), and then run w3, you should enter the debugger and there ought to
be an error message near the top of the buffer. What is the error?

Try checking the obvious points first (such as your .emacs file and the
correct location of the W3 files, their permissions, the permission of the
directory, etc.).

This is just a little advice from a self-confessed non-expert (I hope that
it helps in tracking down the problem).
