1) Use C-c C-c to send the message and get rid of the
window.
If you want deleted messages to be purged from the inbox
--as opposed to just being marked deleted you can:
either:
1) Explicitly run vm-expunge-folder --bound to the # key
or add the following to your .emacs:
(add-hook 'vm-quit-hook 'vm-expunge-folder)
--this will expunge deleted messages when you quit vm.
