first timer needs installation help
The easiest way to install Emacspeak on a Red Hat system is using the
Emacspeak RPM package. You can get it from:
http://www.crosswinds.net/~mattcamp/emacspeak.html
Then, under Linux, copy the file from the DOS partition if that's
where you put it, and then type:
rpm -i emacspeak-11.0-1.noarch.rpm
Once that's done, configure Emacspeak for your synthesizer by typign:
emacspeakconfig
Now you can start it by typing: emacspeak
Then comes the hard part -- learning Linux, Emacs, and Emacspeak,
possibly all at once. A good way to start learning Emacs is by going
through the Emacs tutorial, which you can start with the control-h t
command once yo uhave entered Emacs. Here are a few basic Emacspeak
commands:
control-e left bracket: speak the buffer starting with the current
page
control-e l: speak the current line
control-e w: speak the current word (press again to spell it)
control-e c: speak the current character
control-e s: stop speech immediately
Once you have learned the basics of Emacs, you can go into the info
documentation system with control-h i and read more. First look at
the Emacspeak documentation, so you can learn more about Emacspeak
itself. Then you can learn more about Emacs as needed.
I hope this helps,
Matt
