Lost real audio

I have recently re-installed slakware linux 7.0
and emacspeak-14.0.
For some reason, I can't get real audio to work
under emacspeak.  That is, c-e ; asks me for my choice
of file, but then it beeps and I get nothing.
On the other hand, trplayer works fine, and I can listen to the
audio files with it.
Anybody know what I need to do to recover emacspeak's realaudio facility?
