Way to go! It's about time all this prolipheration of devices which
seem to be appearing on the market directed toward a sighted user be
developped for the rest of us. Praise the LORD that someone's working
on such technology. Does anyone know where someone can sign up to do
some of the research? In the next few months, I hope to be good enough
with programming in several common computer languages to give it a
try. 

The only devices I have seen in recent years which have catored to the
visually impairred audience are the watch and the calculator. Not
since the 1985 IBM TotalTalk, have I even heard of anyone coming out
with a computer which includes, in its default configuration, the
speech synth, much less the natural language recognition
program. Things are really looking up. I'm surprised that New York
Times reporter didn't see the logic and possibilities of what such
systems and imbedded interfaces could do for the blind and visually
impaired. I think that article was really good. It showed what is
possible when people really want to do it. I don't know anything about
palm-top machines, in fact, I have never seen one, but I could learn
it rather quickly with that promise of independent use inside. Thanks
