Hi, Nath. What value are you giving Emacspeak? You should give it a value
from 1 to 100 if memory serves me correctly.
A better solution is to drop the default speech rate you want in to your
.emacs file, and after starting emacspeak do a control+e control+s and then
it will load the new speech rate.
