question about the cascade in acss

After adding the italic voice in w3m I have noticed that if an anchor is
in the middle of an italic block, such as the article blurbs on
slashdot, that it is spoken in the italic voice.  Here is what C-e M-v
shows: 

Personality (emacspeak-w3m-anchor-personality
emacspeak-w3m-italic-personality) 

Face (w3m-anchor-face w3m-italic-face) (w3m-current-anchor-face)

I changed the order of the voice in emacspeak-w3m.el so I have tested it
with the italic voice both first and last and there is no difference.  

Is there any way to give precedence?  I thought with the cascade it
should change the voice in one configuration or another.  Am I just not
getting it?
