speaking splits at line end
Forgot to add this--
The variable that gets set automatically by emacspeak to control how things
are split is
dtk-chunk-separator-syntax
This variable is a string that contains characters denoting syntax classes
that should be considered when splitting into chunks.
For an explanation of how syntax characters work in emacs, see the online info
pages for emacs lisp.
Basically, emacs divides up the world of characters into 12 syntax classes,
and each major mode e.g. C mode or w3-mode can decide how the universe of
characters gets partitioned into these 12 classes.
