speech server and loosing speech

hi all

when using the speech server for a remote session, I've noticed that if you're switching between local and remote sessions sometimes the speech dropps out on the remote session.
is there an easy way to get the speech back.
c-e c-s doesn't seem to work.
all i've been able to come up with is to start another speech server and re-connect.
is there a way to kill a running speech server?
or to re-connect to an existing server?
