I do, however, like the > echo applied when it reads the character. Maybe the echo needs to be a personal preference setting in ESpeak. For me, at least, it breaks the flow of the speech. The idea is that it helps differentiate between a punctuation mark and a word that names a punctuation mark. You can usually tell which is which from context. Plus, most people don't use words like semicolon or question mark very regularly. > As far as the "stutter" when it reads a word after it is typed, is this > something in the server (tcl part) or is it something in espeak itself? I'm reasonably certain that it's in the TTS server. PS. You asked some makefile-related questions in a previous message. I'm attaching the makefile I use when building the ESpeak server. It works on Grml, which is based on Debian testing. Anyway, I had to add an extra directory to the include-path. My tcl library is libtcl8.4.so, rather than libtcl.so. Finally, TCL's header files use the long long datatype, and g++ considers this an error (because it deviates from ISO C++ 98). Hence, -Wno-long-long is added to CFLAGS. -- Chris
