Reading tabular data

Hi Peter,
Actually the data is very simple, does not use multi sheets. I don't
have to produce the data. A nephew who lives in Windows wants to send
me some sports statistics. I think that if the Excel table is saved as
an html file, I might be able to figure out what's going
on. Incidentally I received this suggestion from someone off-list.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll save your dismal code for the time
when I start to use dismal myself.
