emacspeak and mac speech

Hello all:
I've recently installed emacspeak on the mac and tried to get it up
and running. emacspeak starts fine, but it's having issues with the
mac server apparently. Is there a newer server for OSX? Anyone else
had any issues? I have DTK_PROGRAM set to mac.
Also, has anyone built espeak for OSX? I'd prefer to use espeak for emacs.
