emacspeak and linux combo

Hi: I finally got around to trying to update to the latest vinux (5.1)
+ emacs (25) + emacspeak. I had trouble with the desktop announcing
the alt key and overspeaking whatever emacspeak was saying, making
this combination pretty much unusable.

Can any one recommend a modern accessable Linux + desktop + emacspeak
combination that works well? The emphasis is on getting
emacs/emacspeak to work well, and occasional use of apps outside of
emacs, such as firefox.
