Greg, If I go to that link I only have an option to Get a verification code Google will send a verification code to "my landline number". Standard rates apply. That account is a landline, not a cell phone. It also says "try another way" - but there is not another option listed. So it's a circle that goes no where. I set it up mine for voice as it sent to my landline and I get a voice call. On my account 2 step verification page, for my phone it says "codes are sent by voice call". I also just confirmed that this option still exists and works for setting up new numbers. So, once recovered, 2 step authentication can be used without a phone that gets text messages. I know this works as I use it. > > So the issue should be down to getting a change made to the account setup keeping the existing phone number. This may be easier than trying to change the phone number as by not changing the number there is less of a security issue. > > I cannot confirm there is an option to change this setting in account recovery as I have not gone through the account recovery process for my account. But here is a link for account recovery offered by Google when you can't use your existing 2 step authentication. It sends you to the account recovery page, but again, I have not gone beyond that page as my account does not need to be recovered. That page is at: > > https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery > > I apologize if this is information you already knew or things you already tried.
