RE-MAPPING KEYS

Hello emacspeak users,
I am starting to use my linux box with emacspeak, and I find the
position of the control and meta keys are uncomfortable.  I think Raman
once told me that he re-maps the numlock key to the control key.    I
would  like to do this nowthat I have gotten used to working on a sparc
workstation.    Is it also possible to re-map the alt key to the meta
key?  
Is there a program that re-maps the keys?
