RE-MAPPING KEYS
the left alt key should work as a meta key out of the box.
Look under /usr/lib/kbd/keytables (or whatever) where linux
keeps its keymaps --you will find an emacs.map and
emacs2.map --use the one that you like.
There is a tar file on the emacspeak WWW site that provides
a set of elisp files that map important keys like S-tab on
the linux console to things that emacs can use.
