T V,
Thanks for the response. I know there isn't much information, but I
appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide.
I tried C-space, followed by a few C-n's and then C-x C-x, and everything
worked fine. Apparently, the mark is being set. Although, I did notice that
the help for the `exchange-point-and-mark' command states:
This command works even when the mark is not active,
and it reactivates the mark.
However, when I try C-w or M-w, I still get a beep from my workstation (not
the Express) and the message ``The mark is not active now'' in the *Messages*
buffer.
Could there be something going on with the `kill-region' or `kill-ring-save'
commands? I noticed that they're both advised and try to use an auditory
icon. Could this be unsetting the mark on my system?
If I telnet into the workstation, I use C-2 to set the mark and then C-w or
M-w work fine. In Emacspeak, I even tried using the commands M-x
set-mark-command and M-x kill-region, and I still get the beep and no text is
copied into the kill ring.
Is there a way to unadvise some functions, such as `set-mark-command',
`kill-region', ...? I'd rather unadvise some select commands than get some
help bringing up Emacs without Emacspeak. Thanks!
