   you need to grab the source release and compile it with
   Xemacs. After that it may work.

I've just attempted that and, while I no longer get the error which I
initially wrote about, I'm having additional problems.

I am attempting to run the emacspeak shell script which ships with
Debian, though I've modified it to call xemacs, and to point to my
compiled sources. Running 'xemacspeak -batch' yields the following
snippet of output:

  Press C-h C-e to get an   overview of emacspeak  9.0  I am  completely operational,  and all my 
circuits are functioning perfectly! 
Yet, all circuits are _not_ in fact functioning perfectly. :) I'm not
getting any speech upon startup, and I'm suspecting that the optimizer
errors above may be the cause.

I've also attempted to run 'xemacspeak -batch -no-site-file' with the following results:
Loading emacspeak (source)...
dtk-interp-tone already has a byte-optimizer, can't make it inline
Exit 255
I don't know if this is even relevant; my theory was that
-no-site-file would eliminate the possibility of any other packages
causing an error which would prevent Emacspeak from loading. Granted,
that isn't likely, but I like to cover all bases. :)

Any ideas?
