The newest versions of the open source PDF viewer --XPDF
--comes with a very good pdftotext convertor that produces
very clean text from PDF --and does it blazingly fast as
well.
Note: currently it only works on PDF 1.2
If you are running emacspeak and W3
you may want to install the xpdf rpm
(do rpmfind --latest xpdf )
to locate it on the net--
and then add the following line to your .mailcap (found in
your home directory)
to instruct W3 to automatically run pdftotext on PDF
documents.
