food for thought. reading certain things backwards.
Use buffer local pronunciations --emacspeak already does
this for instance when it displays the list of possible
completions when navigating client-side image maps--
in that case the common url prefix is defined to have an
empty pronunciation, and you hear the relevant piece of the
URL.
