I have experimented with the idea of tts_discard.

Basically, after the server gets a tts_discard, it will just 
discard all input until it gets another tts_discard. My use 
case was some macros that I would run in bulk and they would 
get very noisy.

I liked the idea because with a before hook, I could toggle 
on tts_discard and not worry about trying to silence what 
Emacspeak would output then toggle it with an after call to 
turn it back on. Got distracted by more important things I 
am working on now, but still an idea that bounces around in 
my head. 

This would be a case where in your personal config you could 
use like a tts_discard just before the reading of that bit 
and turn it back on after.
