Indeed something is really fishy with your configuration.

Welcome to Emacs and Emacspeak, an incredible tool once things are
sorted out.

Start by teling us a lot more about your setup and perhaps someone can
help you.

Specifically what versions of Mac, emacs, emacspeak etc. How did you
obtain and install everything.

I have been running emacspeak on a Mac for at least 5 years going back
to before the SwiftMac server was available but had not much difficulty
all along the way.

My Mac runs the latest Tahoe OS release, emacs is emacs-mac (macport)
version 29.4 and now emacs-app at version 30.2. Both of the emacses
were installed via homebrew.

Some of the MAc users here swear by emacs-plus which I have not tried.

Emacspeak itself is a git clone of the official repo as of at least a
year ago, the SwiftMac server I later pulled from its own repo and I see
that there are a lot of new updates since the version I'm running.

My emacses run in graphical mode which initially requires a bit of
customization to get the control, option adn commandkeys pointed to
control, super and meta as per usual emacs conventions so you ahve
control and meta on both sides of the keyboard.

Good lock!
