Mac voice changing speed randomly

Hi,
I’ve noticed that with the latest code checked out from git toda, the Mac voice randomly changes speed. To reproduce, the most reliable way I’ve found is the following:
1. Open the file at <emacspeak dir>/lisp/emacspeak-markdown.el.
2. Press m-g twice, and enter 97 to go to line 97.
3. Press C-a to go to the beginning of the line, then the right arrow to go to the next character.
4. Here is the weird thing: press C-l, and Emacspeak will suddenly start speaking much faster. The only way to get back to normal is to press C-e d r, and enter the rate you want Emacspeak to revert to.
Is there a way to fix this?
