Hi! I managed to get Emacspeak working on the Mac, from terminal. I just randomly saw there that we should launch it with a new window open emacs -nw and since then everything works. I wonder if I misread the guide or on Mac there are some edge cases? Anyways, the tts is Espeak-NG installed via HomeBrew. The first thing I note that isn’t not normal is that Emacspeak is very slow. Like the lag is noticeable, I’d say it’s equal or worse than talkback on Android. Second, in the emacs manual it say that m-b and m-f when pressed from within a word will move forward or backward in that word, which is from what I understand the exact same behaviour I am used to (and love) on macOS. But maybe it’s wrong expectation from me or emacspeak by default but I get similar to the windows cursor and that doesn’t match the official doc, or I am misunderstanding it. Also, emacspeak is mapped to c-e, and on my Mac terminal cmd/super right arrow obviously doesn’t work, so what should I modify and where? I’d rather just modify c-e of emacspeak to something else. Last thing, am I doing something really wrong or the emacspeak tts changes I make, c-e d r 300, and c-e d p some, are not saved so each time I restart emacs I have to redo them? I thought putting them into my .emacs or in the .el file of emacspeak but it doesn’t work, or I am doing something wrong. Everyone, the blind/VI community, the community of Emacs of course, and the insane dev who started this not little thing called emacspeak, thank you for all your great work, it’s really, really appreciated. I really feel that emacspeak has shown that programming can be an art, and calling it a screen reader would be a lie a d an under appreciation > On Feb 2, 2025, at 12:54 AM, Sidaqvir Singh Lotay (via emacspeak Mailing List) <emacspeak@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hi. > I've followed all the dispersed guides as to how to get emacs and emacspeak work on the mac (latest version). I have installed the swiftmac tts, and as per the instructions in the demo section of the official manual, I've tested the speech server which perfectly works. However, I created the file in my home directory which would link emacspeak to eamcs, but whatever I tried there is no sound, no dtk speaking any welcome message and obviously no speech output from the speech server at all. I don't get any error message, emacs starts normally as if it had never loaded emacspeak. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I inadvertently broke some rules, this is my first time posting in this group. > I should also add that when building emacspeak there was no error or warning. > Thanks a lot! > Emacspeak discussion list -- emacspeak@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > To unsubscribe send email to: > emacspeak-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with a subject of: unsubscribe
