Couple of answers to what you asked:
0) On setting the port, you could just use env var DTK_PORT ---
from memory tts-lib.tcl checks that.
1) "..." becomes "awe 3 dot "
via function dtk-replace-duplicates --- the various repeating
patterns that are processed is configured via C-e d a
