Re: emacspeak and xemacs, or emacs from gui

Are you saying that emacs is not starting at all or is it starting without
speech?

sometimes, under X windows, terminals, such as gnome terminal, don't start
as a login terminal. This means your bash profile is not sourced. If you
have environment variables specifying which speech server to use etc, they
won't be defined and emacspeak will not be able to speak.

There are a number of solutions to this problem. However, lets see if this
actually is the problem. Once you open the gnome terminal and before you
run emacs, try executing the line

source .bash_profile

then start emacs as you would normally. If it works, then we know that this
is the problem and we can determine the best way to fix it permanently.

Tim
